Azerbaijan-Austrian Tourism Program (AATP)

Since the date of its foundation, Azerbaijan Tourism and Management University pays great importance to the collaboration in the field of education considering the need for rapid development of the tourism industry and the need for a high level of professionals educated in accordance with the international standards.

For this reason only, on 4th July 2007, the “Cooperation Agreement” between the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan and IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems, Austria; as well as the “Academic Agreement” between Azerbaijan Tourism and Management University and IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems, Austria were signed as the first experience in the education history of Azerbaijan based on tourism education in the field of bachelor double-degree diploma. Governmental representatives of Azerbaijan, foreign country diplomats accredited in the Republic of Azerbaijan, and representative staff from Austria participated in the first official signing ceremony.

According to the agreements, education is organized in accordance with the educational program of IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems at Azerbaijan Tourism and Management University, and the programme is officially named as “Azerbaijan-Austrian Tourism Programme” (AATP) - the first double-degree diploma program in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

During the 13 years of cooperation, up to date 216 alumni (203 bachelors and 13 masters) of ATMU successfully completed Bachelor degree of “Azerbaijan-Austrian Tourism Programme” and obtained double-degree diplomas of both ATMU and IMC FH Krems, and have a chance of continuing their education in European countries.

On 12th October 2011, as a successful result of the first cooperation, the “Cooperation Agreement” was signed between ATMU and IMC FH Krems on the specialization of “Tourism and Leisure Management” for Bachelor and Master degrees with the presence of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev and Federal President of Austria Mr. Heinz Fischer. Thus, during 2011 – 2015 ATMU jointly with the IMC FH Krems realized Master’s program. Up to date, 13 students obtained Master’s degree within the framework of “Azerbaijan-Austrian Tourism Programme”.

Due to the expiration of “Cooperation Agreement” on the specialization “Tourism and Leisure Management” for Bachelor degree signed in 2011, on January 22, 2016 the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan issued a new declaration for the continuation of the “Cooperation Agreement”.


Generally, the AATP provides “Tourism and Leisure Management” programme administered by ATMU on behalf of the IMC FH Krems followed by the regulations of the FHSTG (BGBL.1993/340) as amended requires a legal duration of 6 semesters and comprises 180 ECTS. Before admission to the Bachelor programme, all students successfully complete a foundation year at the ATMU.

The programme is completely run in English and requires an entrance and admission procedure including an assessment of English language competences. The required entrance level of English is B2/C1.

Overall classification BA and MA Exam are:


  • Passed with distinction: the candidate’s performance was excellent; GPA ≤ 1.2
  • Passed with credit: the candidate’s performance was clearly above average; GPA ≤ 1.5
  • Passed: the candidate has passed all parts of the examination; GPA > 1.5
  • Failed: the candidate has failed at least one part of the exam.


In the frames of AATP, students have 22 weeks of intern either in Azerbaijan or abroad. One of the basic requirements of the agreement is conducting short block seminars at ATMU, for AATP groups, on the part of international experts. Classes are given by local and expert lecturers from Turkey, Austria, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Italy, France, Greece, USA, Mexico, Australia and other countries.

This opportunity enabled our students to be the employees of respective tourism centres worldwide.

Currently, our graduates have different positions at the well-known luxury and chain hotels in Baku including “Hilton Baku”, “Four Seasons”, “Jumeirah Bilgah Beach”, “JW Marriott Absheron”, “Fairmont Baku”, “Pullman Badamdar Baku”, “Sea Breeze”, “Park Inn by Radisson”, “Absheron Hotel Group”; as well as travel companies, aviation sphere, are involved in several international projects, etc. Some students either work or continue their education in Turkey, Russia, USA, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Switzerland, Australia, Scotland, Republic of Maldives, the UAE and other countries, where tourism is the priority sphere.

Application Requirements

Based on the agreement between ATMU and IMC Krems, every student studying Azerbaijani, Russian and English groups in ATMU can apply for the AATP to the ATMU’s International Office. Minimum requirements for eligibility are to have a maximum of 2 failed subjects, must complete 1st year and its compulsory subjects.

Below documents are required for the submission:

  • IELTS 5.5 certificate or proof of exam registration
  • A foreign passport or Identification document
  • 3x4 sized photos
  • CV (Europass format)
  • Motivation letter
  • Essay
  • English translation of school attestation and notarial copy (can be obtained from ATMU’s Registration office)
  • Transcript (can be obtained from ATMU’s Registration office)
Who can apply for the programme?
Minimum requirements for the eligibility are to have maximum of 2 failed subjects, must complete 1st year and its compulsory subjects.
Check admission requirements
A student who completed the first year of their studies at ATMU completes the remaining three years within the AATP group. According to the country's regulations, the length of bachelor studies in Azerbaijan is four years and in Austria three years. Each semester of the AATP group is 15 weeks and the class hour is 45 minutes.
It is possible to withdraw from the AATP group, upon successful completion of one semester.
Upon successful completion of the first and second semesters students can apply for an exchange semester at IMC Krems ASU.
At the end of their studies, AATP students should have 22 weeks PTS and earns credits. Mostly, ATMU students spend their PTS in foreign countries.
Students can re-sit in a failed exam twice in two weeks after the first exam. If a student fails all the given chances, then they take an oral exam. The very last option for the pass is to sit with the below-grade students.
AATP students are exempted from some subjects existing on a national program.
All subjects in the AATP group are taught in the English language. Courses are taught by local and international experts from Austria, Turkey, Germany, Portugal, Spain, France, Italy.
